Canola Oil Cooks with the Pros

Calgary-based Chef Liana Robberecht created an autumn-themed savoury canola recipe as an ode to her home province to serve at the Taste of Pride in Orlando, Florida. Robberecht shares with The Globe and Mail that she wanted to embody Alberta on a plate, so she turned to locally sourced canola oil and honey. “I just love everything about the versatility of these ingredients, from savoury to sweet,” said Robberecht.

Southern fare lightens up with tips from Chef Virginia Willis, author of the James Beard Award-winning cookbook Lighten Up. On The Food Network’s blog Healthy Eats, Willis suggests using heart-healthy canola oil for cooking along with portion control. “I have a squirt bottle of canola oil at the side of my cooktop. I know that three squirts are one teaspoon, and that helps me be accountable,” explains Willis.
