Step Up to the Plate: Take Your Cooking Skills to an Epic Level

‘Tis the season of warm weather, group gatherings and festive fare. It’s also time for men, and those who love them, to pay attention to how they’re treating their bodies. While exercise is important, it’s just as vital to maintain a healthy diet. Guys, we know you’re experts on the grill and we’ve got some new recipes for you to try. Take your culinary skills up a level by expanding into the kitchen, too. Magical meals await!

When thinking about preparing savory and delicious meals, think about using canola oil. Canola oil has the least amount of saturated fat among common cooking oils (half that of olive and soybean oils), it has the most plant-based omega-3 fat of all common cooking oils, there’s zero trans-fat and is a good source of vitamin E.

“I often recommend to my male clients different dishes that are easy to prepare, are a good source of protein and are heart-healthy.” says Manuel Villacorta, R.D. and spokesperson for CanolaInfo. “When I cook, I want an oil that’s versatile and that I can incorporate and customize into any meal. With canola oil, I get that while benefiting my body and my health. It’s a win/win.”

Manuel Villacorta, R.D.

Since we know that the kitchen can be an intimidating place, Manuel has pulled together three simple tips you can do in the kitchen to create mouthwatering and nutritious meals:

  • DIY: If there’s one incredible thing you could do for your health, it’s to cook your own meals. You can’t control your nutrition or your health if you don’t know what you’re putting in your body.
  • Experiment for peak performance: Peak performance means owning what you eat, and that means getting to know your kitchen. Mess around in the kitchen and embrace mistakes – it’s all fun, and the food is probably still edible!
  • Heat things up: When swapping the grill for the stove, keep the heat by using canola oil -- it has a high smoke point.
