Indulge Responsibly

The holidays are upon us and that means tables will be heavy with tempting treats. But you don’t have to deprive yourself of favourite desserts, according to Katherine Brooking, M.S., R.D., in WebMD. By making more fruit-based recipes and minimizing their calorie and saturated fat impact, you can enjoy yourself with less guilt. Brooking suggests cutting 25 per cent of the sugar from the recipe, using non-fat or low-fat plain Greek yogurt in place of sour cream and replacing oils high in saturated fat with those higher in unsaturated fat like canola oil. She says canola oil is perfect for baking because of its light texture and mild flavour.
