Not All Cooking Oils Are Equal

Cooking oils with unsaturated fats like canola oil provide health benefits, emphasizes Harvard Medical School’s Dr. Anthony Komaroff in his widely syndicated column, “Ask Dr. K.” Consulting with the chair of the nutrition department at the Harvard School of Public Health, Dr. K warns that saturated fats can increase total and “bad” LDL cholesterol as well as the risk of heart disease. Regardless of the chosen cooking oil, use it in moderation, he adds.
